Sunshine Bunny

Mid-late maturing variety, developed at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection from crossing the varieties African and Kolobok. Author: O.V. Kurashev. Under state variety testing since 2009.

Medium-height, compact bush. Shoots of medium thickness, straight, light green, hairy. Almost thornless, with only very rare, single, weak, short, light-colored thorns at the base of shoots, at right angles or slightly angled.

Leaves medium-sized, light green, moderately hairy, matte surface, soft, convex. Teeth blunt, short, not curled. Five-lobed leaf with deep notches. Leaf tips blunt. Leaf base straight.

Flowers medium-sized, bright-colored. Sepals medium length and width, bright-colored, heavily hairy on the outer side, curled upward. Style bare, oval, without ridges.

Berries small to medium-sized (average weight 2.5 g, maximum 3.5 g), round-oval or egg-shaped, yellowish-light green with raspberry spots on the sun-exposed side, one-sided, hairless, with waxy coating. Few seeds, thin skin. Tart-sweet taste (4.4 points), aromatic, refreshing, delicate. Calyx closed, pedicel medium length, dark green, thin or medium thickness. Chemical composition: total sugars — 10.6%, titratable acidity — 2.7%, ascorbic acid — 37.0 mg/100 g. Berries suitable for all uses.

Cold-hardy variety (but may experience frost damage to vegetative and mixed buds in upper parts of shoots during severe winters), moderately drought-resistant, average yield 6.0-10.0 t/ha, characterized by good self-fertility and resistance to American powdery mildew.

Advantages of the variety: thornlessness, resistance to powdery mildew, satisfactory fruit taste.

Disadvantages of the variety: dense bush structure, insufficient berry weight.
