Working with the Affik hybrid from Monsanto (originator Seminis), I quickly appreciated how this crop stands its ground. In high-humidity conditions where adjacent plots start to fail due to downy mildew, this lettuce continues to form dense, healthy rosettes.

Field characteristics and cultivation

When it comes to establishing the plantation, everything is straightforward. At the recommended density of 80,000–90,000 plants/ha, we get excellent uniformity. Since this is an early-maturing variety, it reaches market weight quickly, allowing for easy scheduling of staggered harvests. Protection and resistance

The phytosanitary profile deserves special mention:

• Sclerotinia and Sclerosporium: Affik shows impressive resistance, saving money on fungicide applications.
• Powdery mildew: Aggressive pathogen pressure has almost no effect on growth rates.
