Description
Aleppo Salad (Aleppo) is an early semi-leaf lettuce type of Lollo Bionda, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan. This variety features spherical rosettes of medium size with curly, light-green leaves weighing 400-600 grams. The leaves are crisp, tender, and juicy, with no bitter taste, making it especially attractive for fresh consumption. The vegetative period ranges from 30 to 45 days depending on the desired harvest size, and the variety does not form flower stalks, which extends the harvest period.
Aleppo lettuce exhibits high resistance to various diseases, including powdery mildew (strains 1-16, 19, 21, 23, 27, 29, 30, 32), internal necrosis, aphids, and root diseases. It is also resistant to leaf edge burn, enhancing its resilience under various cultivation conditions. Thanks to its high adaptability and extended flowering period, Aleppo ensures a stable and prolonged harvest.
This variety is versatile for cultivation: it grows well both in open ground from April to September and in greenhouse conditions year-round, including hydroponic systems. The plant is adaptable to soil types but requires regular watering and loosening to maintain moisture and oxygen levels. Seeds should be sown at a depth of 1-1.5 cm, with seedlings thinned if necessary. The harvest is characterized by high marketability, good transportability, and long storage life, making Aleppo lettuce popular in fresh markets.
