The Armiglia lettuce variety from the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan is a high-tech breeding product focused on harvest stability under intensive farming conditions. Phytopathological protection

The key technical solution in Armiglia is its integrated genetic resistance block. The breeders focused on two critical threats to the crop:

• Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae): Rijk Zwaan’s selection process has integrated resistance genes that block pathogen development at early stages, minimizing the need for fungicide applications.
• Lettuce Mosaic Virus (LMV): Genetic protection prevents leaf plate deformation and growth stagnation, which is critical for maintaining product shelf life and visual appeal during transport and storage.

Morphology and vegetative potential

The green leaf color combined with the leaf type makes this variety a versatile tool for conveyor-belt production. Unlike loose-headed varieties, the structure of Armiglia features increased tissue density, reducing the risk of mechanical damage during harvesting and packaging. An optimally balanced root system ensures efficient nutrient uptake, resulting in rapid development of marketable biomass without losing leaf density.
