Description
The Bolting lettuce is a mid-season head lettuce variety, distinguished by its large size and excellent taste qualities. The heads are round-oval or flat-round in shape, 12-17 cm high and 10-14 cm in diameter, weighing between 130 and 326 g. The leaves are light green with a yellowish tint, featuring a blistered surface, a fringed-wavy edge, and finely serrated cuts. The leaves have a crunchy and juicy consistency, making this variety particularly attractive for fresh consumption.
Bolting lettuce prefers light and moist conditions; with insufficient light, plants may stretch, and heads form loosely. For successful cultivation, loose, humus-rich soils with a neutral pH of about 7 are recommended. The variety is very demanding for mineral nutrition, especially during the two weeks before head formation when nutrient uptake peaks. Sowing is carried out from early to late May, following a planting scheme of 15-20 x 30-40 cm, with harvest possible from June to August.
The maturity period of the lettuce ranges from 54 to 70 days, depending on growing conditions. Yields reach 2.0–4.6 kg per square meter, making this variety in demand among gardeners. Thanks to its resistance to bolting and good adaptation to various conditions, Bolting lettuce is an excellent choice for cultivation in both open and protected ground. Its tender and juicy leaves are perfect for fresh salads and other culinary dishes.
