Dayanas

Dayanas lettuce (Dayanas) is a medium-maturing variety of head lettuce of the Iceberg type, developed by breeders of Enza Zaden and also available under the Rijk Zwaan brand. This variety is versatile in cultivation, successfully grown both in open and protected ground, allowing harvest during spring-summer and summer-autumn periods. From seedling transplanting to technical maturity, it takes 55-60 days, making it suitable for all-season cultivation. The plant forms a semi-erect rosette 16-22 cm tall and about 31 cm in diameter, with heads having a round shape, dense structure, and medium-sized light-green, slightly blistered, and wavy-edged leaves. Dayanas variety shows high resistance to bolting and necrosis, significantly increasing its suitability for long-term cultivation and processing. Thanks to the blocking of juice oxidation, the lettuce retains freshness and attractive appearance when packed whole heads, making it popular for both fresh consumption and industrial processing. Seed weight can reach up to 500 grams, indicating good yield potential and quality of planting material. Dayanas lettuce prefers a moderate climate and tolerates nighttime temperature fluctuations and short-term cold spells, expanding its cultivation geography. It is widely used for fresh salads, side dishes, and sandwiches due to its dense structure and pleasant taste.
