Description
Gasconie is a mid-early type of Bataevia lettuce, distinguished by its newest type of leaf-cutting lettuce. This variety becomes commercially viable 45–48 days after sowing. The plant's rosette is large and compact, with a diameter of 30–35 cm. The leaves have a greenish-yellow color, wavy and deeply cut, giving the lettuce an attractive appearance. The mass of one plant ranges from 450 to 550 grams. In terms of taste, Bataevia-type lettuces resemble head lettuces, but at the same time, they maintain freshness for a significantly longer period after cutting.
The Gasconie variety is recommended for growing in open ground and under temporary film coverings, which allows it to be used in various climatic conditions. Seeds are sown directly into the ground in April–May, while for obtaining seedlings, seeds are sown in March–April. Seedlings are transplanted in May with a planting scheme of 25×30 cm, which promotes the formation of a powerful and healthy rosette.
For successful cultivation of Gasconie, regular and moderate watering is required, which prevents both water stagnation and soil drying out. The variety is resistant to bolting and main lettuce diseases, which significantly eases care and increases yield. Thanks to these qualities, Gasconie is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking to obtain fresh, tasty, and long-lasting lettuce.
