Description
Gelvetya - a mid-early leaf lettuce with a maturation period of 42-47 days, known for its undemanding nature and high yield. The leaf rosettes are semi-vertical, reaching 20-22 cm in height and 30-35 cm in diameter. The leaves are large, green, wavy, and bubble-textured, possessing a tender, semi-crisp consistency. The leaf taste is sweet and juicy, without bitterness, making this variety particularly attractive to consumers. The mass of one plant ranges from 280 to 320 grams, with a yield reaching 2.9-3.4 kg per square meter.
The variety is valued for its excellent taste qualities and high content of microelements and vitamins. It is resistant to bolting and adverse weather conditions, grows well at lower temperatures, and retains commercial viability for a long time under long-day conditions. Thanks to these characteristics, Gelvetya is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions and ensures a stable yield.
For sowing, it is recommended to sow seeds for seedlings in March-April, followed by transplanting into open ground in May according to a scheme of 35x40 cm. Direct sowing into open ground in May is also possible. To obtain a continuous crop, sowings are repeated every 2-4 weeks. When dense seedlings appear, thinning is carried out twice: first at the stage of one true leaf to a distance of 5-7 cm, then 2-3 weeks after sowing, leaving 35-40 cm between plants. Care for the plants includes soil loosening, weeding, and infrequent but abundant watering. The harvest maturation period falls between June and September.
