Description
Locarno (Locarno) salad is a semi-heading type Lollo Bionda variety developed by the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. This variety is characterized by early maturity, with a vegetation period of 40-50 days from planting in the ground. Locarno is suitable for cultivation both in open ground from mid-April to early October, as well as in covered environments — greenhouses, tunnels, and hydroponics, making it a versatile all-season variety.
The plant forms a large, evenly shaped head with small, curly, tender, crisp leaves of a light green, shiny hue. The leaves are of medium size, juicy, and pleasant to taste. The plant weight reaches up to 500 grams, and the rosette is open with slightly blistered outer and inner leaves. Locarno exhibits high resistance to bolting even at short-term high temperatures, ensuring a stable yield under hot conditions.
The variety is adapted for cultivation on various soil types, but yields best on light, fertile, and moderately moist soils. It has full immunity to false powdery mildew and is resistant to internal necrosis and lettuce aphids, significantly reducing the need for treatments and increasing cultivation reliability. Thanks to these qualities, Locarno is an excellent choice for farmers and gardeners seeking high-quality, tasty salad throughout the season.
