Description
Mercury lettuce is a mid-season variety of leaf lettuce that becomes ready for harvesting approximately 55 days after sowing. This variety is recommended for growing in open ground, where it demonstrates good adaptation and high yield. The lettuce leaves have a semi-vertical arrangement, large size, and a rich reddish color with an anthocyanic tint, giving the plant an attractive appearance. The leaves have a tender crisp texture and a wrinkled surface, which ensures a pleasant taste and texture when consumed.
The plant forms a rosette that is about 27 cm high and 27 to 31 cm in diameter, while the mass of one rosette reaches approximately 450 grams. For successful growing, it is recommended to sow seeds directly into the ground in April or to grow seedlings in March-April followed by transplanting in May. The optimal planting scheme is 25 by 30 centimeters, which provides sufficient space for the development of a powerful rosette.
To form a quality harvest, regular and moderate waterings are necessary, which prevent both waterlogging and soil drying out. Such care contributes to the development of healthy and juicy leaves. The yield of the Mercury variety is from 4.4 to 4.9 kilograms per square meter, which makes it a profitable choice for growing both in private estates and for commercial purposes.
