The onion variety 'Volgodonets' is a medium-early variety developed by the All-Russian N.I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry and the Volgograd Experimental Station. This variety is characterized by high yield, reaching from 1.4 to 3.2 kg per square meter, which corresponds to a commercial yield of 300-440 centners per hectare. The bulbs have a round shape, weighing from 70 to 85 grams, are dense with yellow dry skins and juicy white or greenish inner layers. The onion taste is weakly sharp or sharp, making it universal for various culinary applications.
The 'Volgodonets' variety is distinguished by its resistance to stem rot, although it is susceptible to powdery mildew. The bulbs have a medium neck thickness and ripen well: before harvesting, the ripening rate is about 70%, while after ripening it reaches 94%.
