Description
Summer variety developed at the Samara Experimental Station for Horticulture from a cross between Bergamot Volzhsky and Williams in 1936. The variety is included in the State Register for the Middle Volga region. Author: S. P. Kedrin.
Young tree with a narrow-pyramidal, tall, sparse crown. Main branches diverge from the trunk at a sharp angle. Bark color of main branches is gray. Weak vegetative bud-forming ability, high bud dormancy breaking. Fruit set — rings and spear-shaped clusters. Yield is predominantly formed on rings located on multi-year branches.
Shoots are straight, often thick, gray. Leaves are medium-sized, oval, shiny. Leaf margin is wavy. Leaf blade is strongly folded along the central vein and strongly curved. Petioles are lanceolate.
Fruits are below average size, weighing 70-80 g (maximum 150 g), pear-shaped or truncated-conical. Fruit surface is smooth. Color when harvested and consumed is greenish-yellow. Peel is medium thickness, not rough. Subcutaneous dots are weakly visible. Peduncle is straight or slightly curved, medium length and thickness, slightly woody, widened at the base of the fruit. Receptacle is medium, open or semi-open. Calyx is small or absent, with a frilled edge. Seed cavity is bulbous, medium-sized, located in the center of the fruit. Seed chambers are closed.
Flesh is yellowish, medium density, tender, juicy, with good sour-sweet flavor, free of granules.
Fruit harvesting is conducted from August 15-25, and fruits keep for up to two weeks.
Fruit-bearing begins on the 8th-9th year after planting. Annual yield is good. Mature trees yield 100-120 kg per tree.
Winter hardiness is high. Resistance to fruit and leaf scab is moderate, higher than that of the Bessemianka variety.
Advantages of the variety: good sour-sweet flavor of fruits.
Disadvantages of the variety: late fruiting onset and very large crown.
