Description
Kollette — an early-maturing German potato variety of universal use, developed in the late 1990s by specialists from Kartoffelzucht Bohm and EUROPLANT Pflanzenzucht GmbH. Plants of medium height with semi-erect stems and light-green leaves with slightly wavy edges. Flowers are large, reddish-purple. Tubers have an oval-elongated shape, yellow skin, and pale-yellow flesh. Average tuber weight ranges from 66 to 125 grams, with 6 to 11 tubers per plant. Starch content is between 12.2–15.2%, making this variety especially suitable for frying and chip production. Flesh does not darken when boiled, and the taste is rated as excellent. Yield of the Kollette variety ranges from 166 to 600 centners per hectare depending on growing conditions, with tuber marketability reaching 76–98% and storage quality at 92%. The variety can produce two harvests per season with proper care. It responds well to irrigation, significantly increasing yield, and is recommended for cultivation on loose, fertile soils with good irrigation. Optimal spacing between plants is 30 cm, between rows — 75 cm. Before planting, tubers are recommended to be warmed and sprouted for better plant development. Kollette has high resistance to diseases such as golden potato cyst nematode, potato scab, viruses A and Y, as well as common scab and blackleg. However, the variety is susceptible to late blight of leaves and tubers, requiring timely preventive measures. Due to its characteristics and universal application, Kollette is widely used for both table consumption and production of French fries and chips, making it a popular choice among producers and consumers.
