Description
The potato variety "Northern Glare" is mid-season and intended for table use, as well as for processing into crispy potatoes and vacuum packaging. The plant is tall, upright, with large dark-green leaves of intermediate type. Tubers are elongated-oval, with very small eyes, and both skin and flesh have a distinctive blue-speckled hue. The mass of marketable tubers ranges from 97 to 129 grams, and starch content is 14.7-15.7%. The variety is distinguished by good to excellent taste, making it versatile for preparing salads, soups, and frying. When boiled, the potato does not darken or change color after peeling, which is especially valuable for dietary diets.
The yield of this variety is at the level of 165-267 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching up to 445 centners, exceeding the standards of some well-known varieties. The number of tubers per plant is 9-12. The variety demonstrates high marketability (83-97%) and excellent storability (95%), ensuring long-term storage without quality loss. "Northern Glare" is resistant to several diseases, including potato cancer, golden potato cyst nematode, as well as crinkly and mosaic diseases, significantly reducing cultivation risks.
The potato adapts well to various soil conditions, including heavy soils, and positively responds to irrigation. It is heat-tolerant and has moderate resistance to viruses Y and A, leaf curl, black foot, late blight of foliage and tubers, rizoctonia, as well as common and silver scab. These characteristics make the "Northern Glare" variety a reliable choice for farmers seeking a high-quality, disease-resistant crop with good taste and technological properties.
