Description
VETRAZ — a medium-late potato variety of Belarusian breeding, intended for table use and production of crispy potatoes. Plants of this variety are tall, intermediate type with semi-erect habit, dark green, open leaves of medium size. Tubers are oval-round in shape, with medium eyes, smooth yellow skin and yellow flesh. The mass of marketable tubers ranges from 94 to 156 grams, and the number of tubers per plant is from 6 to 10. Starch content is in the range of 15.4–19.1%, corresponding to the culinary type CD, making the potato suitable for baking, frying and making mash.
The variety is characterized by stable and high yield, ranging from 179 to 285 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 328 centners. The yield of VETRAZ is 33–90 centners higher than the standard Golybizna, indicating its high productivity. Tubers' marketability is at the level of 81–96%, and storability reaches 95%, ensuring good storage and minimal losses during storage. Taste qualities of the variety are rated as good to excellent, and the flesh does not darken upon cutting, which is an important advantage for consumers and processors.
VETRAZ exhibits resistance to several diseases, including potato cancer pathogen (pathotype I) and golden potato cyst nematode. It is also resistant to leaf mosaic and leaf curling. However, according to data from the All-Union Institute of Phytopathology, it shows moderate susceptibility to late blight on foliage and susceptibility on tubers. Main advantages of the variety — stable yield, high marketable tuber output, excellent taste qualities, uniform tuber shape, and good suitability for processing, making VETRAZ an attractive choice for farmers and processors.
