Technical profile of the «Prestige» rice variety

The «Prestige» rice, developed by the Rice Institute of the NAAS of Ukraine, is a medium-grain cultivar optimized for intensive cultivation systems. The core engineering objective addressed in this variety is the precise balance between a 120–130 day growing season and high output of marketable grain.

Biological resistance and productivity

• Disease resistance: Genetic resistance to rice blast (Pyricularia oryzae) allows for a reduction in fungicide applications during the active tillering phase. This is a critical factor in field safety, as fungal infection of the leaves and panicles is the primary cause of crop loss in high-humidity environments.
• Yield potential: A yield of 7–8 tons/ha is achievable under consistent water management practices. The variety exhibits a stable tillering coefficient, ensuring uniform panicle maturation across the entire field.

Culinary characteristics and processing

The medium-grain classification dictates the end-use utility of this variety. «Prestige» features high vitreousness, which minimizes grain breakage during the milling process. The physical properties of the grain make it an excellent raw material for cereal production, while the specific starch composition ensures that the finished product—when cooked as porridge—retains its structural integrity and proper texture without becoming overly starchy.
