Description

The Darvet winter rye variety is a late-maturing variety characterized by a vegetative period ranging from 316 to 334 days. It is recommended for cultivation in the Western Siberia and Eastern Siberia regions, and is also successfully grown in the Middle Urals. Darvet is distinguished by high winter hardiness, drought resistance, and resistance to brown rust, as well as moderate resistance to fusarium of the ear. The baking quality of the variety is satisfactory, with a fall number of 180 to 340 seconds, confirming its suitability for producing quality flour.

The Darvet variety was bred by cloning in 2011 based on plants of the Alice variety, followed by selection of offspring with high winter hardiness, productive bushiness, uniform height, sturdy straw, and a large ear. In 2015, 16 promising plants were selected and grouped into one population to obtain original seeds. Under conditions of the Middle Urals, grain yield of the Darvet variety reached 5.48 tons/hectare, exceeding the indicators of standard varieties Alice and Parom by 0.64 and 0.52 tons/hectare, respectively. The maximum yield of 7.56 tons/hectare was achieved in the Tomsk region in 2022.

Darvet demonstrates advantages in plant height, lodging resistance, and productive bushiness, which is 10-15% higher than with analogues. The number of grains in the ear for this variety is 8% more, the mass of 1000 grains exceeds standards by 5-10%, and ear productivity is 4-18% higher compared to Alice and Parom varieties. The yield of the variety positively correlates with winter hardiness and mass of 1000 grains, as well as plant density and ear productivity, which makes Darvet a reliable and highly productive choice for agricultural production.
