Description
The Kunak spring triticale variety is the result of interspecific hybridization and belongs to the erytrospermum subtype. The plant is of medium height with a semi-upright bush, the ear is pyramidal, medium length and density, fully awned with medium-length non-rigid awns. The grain is oval-elongated, light red in color, smooth and matte. The mass of 1000 grains ranges from 41.2 to 46 grams, grain natural density is 750–790 g/l. Protein content in the grain ranges from 12.8% to 15.1%, starch from 63.8% to 67.0%.
Kunak is a medium-maturing variety with a vegetative period ranging from 76 to 91 days depending on the growing region. The heading time is average; the variety heads 2-4 days earlier than the standard spring triticale Uкро variety. The variety has high yield: in the Central region it reaches an average of 26.4 c/ha, in the North Caucasus – 13.4 c/ha, and maximum yield indicators can reach 66.8–80 c/ha. The variety is resistant to grain shedding, which helps preserve the yield.
Kunak is intended for the production of both fodder and food grain. It is characterized by high resistance to a range of diseases, including bunt, brown, yellow, and stem rust, powdery mildew, septoria, fusarium of the ear, and hard bunt. In addition, the variety has high drought and heat tolerance, which makes it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including sowings in the "February windows" of Krasnodar Krai.
