Description
Triticale winter, variety Tikhon is an early-maturing hexaploid variety created through interspecific hybridization and individual selection. The plant is of medium height with a semi-erect bush, short-stemmed (110-115 cm), which ensures resistance to lodging. The ear is white, of medium length and density, with short awns. The mass of 1000 grains is from 48.7 to 52 g; the grain is large, light-red, and semi-elongated. The vegetative period is 7-9 days shorter than the standard variety Brat, allowing the variety to be used in regions with a limited warm period. Grain natural density reaches 755 g/l, and protein content varies from 12.0 to 14.0% depending on growing conditions. Variety Tikhon is distinguished by high productivity and adaptive potential. The average yield over several years of trials is about 112 c/ha, which significantly exceeds the indicators of standard varieties. Maximum yields reached 104.5 c/ha and even 143 c/ha in individual ecological variety trials. The variety has medium frost resistance and high drought resistance, making it a reliable choice for growing in the North Caucasus region. It shows immunity to yellow rust, high resistance to solid head smut, as well as resistance to powdery mildew and septoria. At the same time, the variety is moderately susceptible to brown rust and fusarium of the ear. Tikhon is intended for use as grain fodder and for technical purposes, including bioethanol and alcohol production. For food purposes, flour from this variety is suitable for baking cookies, cakes, and rye-bread or in a mixture with wheat flour. Thanks to its baking properties and high yield, variety Tikhon is a universal and economically viable choice for agricultural producers focused on obtaining high-quality grain and processing products.
