A premium Dutch seedless hybrid with strong resistance to Fusarium and Anthracnose, ideal for commercial cultivation.
Description
Dutch breeding for the premium segment
The «Aclaim» watermelon by the Dutch company Nunhems has firmly established itself in the professional segment as the standard for seedless hybrids. Developed by the breeding team led by Paul Degreef, this hybrid was a response to market demand for a convenient, transportable, and stable product free from the main drawback of classic varieties — hard seeds.
Agronomic performance and protection
The hybrid demonstrates high adaptability to various growing conditions, which is critical for market-oriented producers. Unlike many early-maturing varieties, «Aclaim» possesses significant «immunity» to soil pathogens. Its genetic resistance to Fusarium wilt and Anthracnose reduces the need for heavy fungicide applications, simplifying crop management and improving environmental safety.
- Vegetation period: 60–70 days, allowing for reliable harvest scheduling.
- Size and shape: Round fruits weighing 5–8 kg are ideal for retail chains and individual consumption.
- Flesh quality: Bright pink color, dense texture without internal hollows, and high sugar content.
Production recommendations
To achieve target fruit weight, it is recommended to maintain a planting density of 5,000–6,000 plants per hectare. Proper spacing is a key factor, as overcrowding can lead to lower marketable fruit weight, while excessive thinning can lead to oversized produce, which is not always preferred by retailers. Thanks to its thick rind, the fruits withstand long-distance transport remarkably well, maintaining their appearance and flavor profile throughout the storage period.
