It is characterized by its distinctively shaped, vermiform (worm-like) conidia, which are specialized reproductive structures that allow the pathogen to effectively disperse through the field environment via wind, rain splash, or physical contact.

The primary symptom associated with this pathogen is foliar leaf spot disease. Upon invading the plant tissue through the stomata or epidermal wounds, the fungus colonizes the mesophyll, leading to chlorosis and subsequent necrosis of the infected area. As the infection progresses, these necrotic spots often enlarge and coalesce, resulting in significant tissue decay and potential defoliation of the host plant.

The biological cycle of Anguillosporella vermiformis is heavily reliant on environmental factors, particularly relative humidity and temperature.
