The fungus is primarily responsible for diseases such as black rot of sweet potatoes, and vascular wilt in cocoa, coffee, eucalyptus, and citrus. The infection mechanism involves the pathogen colonizing the host's vascular tissues, leading to necrosis, tissue decay, and the ultimate death of the plant due to systemic failure of nutrient transport.
