The Clover mite (Bryobia praetiosa) is a member of the spider mite family (Tetranychidae). This arthropod is a widespread agricultural pest that primarily feeds on the chlorophyll-rich tissues of various plant species. Due to its size and habits, it often goes unnoticed until visible damage to the host plant becomes significant.
This mite affects a wide variety of plants, including clovers, alfalfa, grasses, and ornamental shrubs. By piercing the epidermal cells and consuming the sap, the mite causes stippling—small white or silvery spots on the leaves. Severe infestations lead to leaf chlorosis, plant stunting, and can significantly reduce the overall yield of fodder crops and the vitality of garden plants.
