Diseases and host range: This pathogen is the primary cause of target spot, a destructive disease characterized by circular or irregular lesions with concentric rings. It significantly impacts soybean production, where it causes foliage necrosis and premature senescence. Additionally, it causes leaf blight and root rot in tomatoes, cucumbers, papayas, and various leguminous crops, leading to significant yield losses globally.

Biology and life cycle: The fungus survives between growing seasons as mycelium or conidia on crop debris, in the soil, or on infected seeds. The infection process begins when conidia land on plant surfaces and germinate under favorable moisture conditions. Once inside the host tissue, the fungus produces secondary conidia, allowing for multiple infection cycles during a single growing season.
