Its pathogenicity is characterized by the colonization of the xylem vessels by fungal mycelium, which obstructs the transport of water and essential nutrients. This systemic blockage causes wilting, chlorosis, premature plant death, and substantial losses in grain yield and quality.

Protection and control measures. Management strategies should prioritize crop rotation with non-host species to break the pathogen's life cycle. The use of disease-free, fungicide-treated seeds is crucial for minimizing early infection. Integrated management also involves deep incorporation of crop residues, proper soil fertilization to enhance plant vigor, and diligent weed control to eliminate alternative reservoirs of the fungus.
