Fusarium redolens is a soil-borne microscopic fungus belonging to the Fusarium genus within the Fungi kingdom. It is a well-known plant pathogen capable of causing fusarium wilt and root rot diseases across a wide range of economically important agricultural crops.
The pathogen primarily affects plants such as cereals, vegetables (particularly tomatoes and potatoes), and legumes. A characteristic symptom is the colonization of the vascular system, which severely disrupts nutrient and water transport, leading to yellowing, wilting, and often the death of the host plant.
The biology of Fusarium redolens is characterized by its ability to survive in the soil for long periods as chlamydospores or as mycelium within plant debris. When conditions become favorable, these spores germinate and infect roots, usually entering through minor wounds or natural openings in the root cortex.
