Grapevine chrome is a specific viral disease pathogen known to affect grapevines (Vitis vinifera). This pathogen acts as a systemic virus that infiltrates the vascular tissues of the plant, causing severe disruption in the translocation of nutrients and water, which ultimately impacts the vine's health and productivity.
The disease is characterized by distinct bright yellow or chrome-colored chlorotic spots on the leaves. As the infection progresses, these symptoms lead to leaf deformation, necrosis of localized tissues, and a significant decrease in photosynthesis. Affected vines often show stunted growth and poor fruit set, which significantly impacts the harvest quality.
