Hemicycliophora nudata is a specialized plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the phylum Nematoda. As an ectoparasite, it remains outside the plant tissue, utilizing its needle-like stylet to feed on root epidermal cells. This species is recognized by agriculturalists for its ability to cause significant root damage without penetrating the inner cortical layers of the roots.

The host range of Hemicycliophora nudata includes various vegetables, fruit crops, and ornamental plants. When these nematodes feed on the roots, they induce cellular alterations that lead to root tip swelling or deformation. These injuries disrupt the plant's vascular system, preventing the effective uptake of water and nutrients, which eventually leads to stunted growth, wilting, and poor yields.

The biological cycle of this pathogen is strictly tied to soil moisture and root availability. After eggs are deposited in the soil, the larvae progress through four developmental stages before reaching maturity. The spread of the pest is mainly facilitated by human activities, such as transporting contaminated soil, utilizing infested nursery stock, or moving agricultural machinery across different field zones.

Effective control programs integrate crop rotation with non-host species, soil solarization, and the application of chemical nematicides when necessary.
