The disease cycle typically begins when the fungus colonizes woody tissues through natural openings or pruning wounds. It frequently affects fruit-bearing trees and vines, leading to symptoms such as branch dieback, vascular discoloration, and potential fruit rot. The pathogen thrives as a latent infection until the host experiences stress.
Biologically, the fungus produces pycnidia which release spores into the environment. Rain splash and air currents are the primary mechanisms for local spread.
