Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of L. wageneri involves the colonization of root tracheids. It spreads efficiently through root-to-root contact between adjacent trees. Additionally, bark beetles and weevils act as primary vectors, introducing spores into healthy trees when feeding or tunneling through the root and stem bark.

The pathogen's impact is severe, as it causes rapid decline in vigor, chlorosis, and widespread tree mortality. Once established, the fungus creates expanding mortality centers within forests.
