The pathogen targets various host species, including popular fruit-bearing trees like apple and pear, as well as ornamental trees such as ash and willow. Infection is typically opportunistic, gaining entry into the plant host through pruning wounds, frost cracks, or sites damaged by insect activity, which compromises the tree's natural defense barriers.
The biology of Libertella involves the production of conidia within stromatic structures located beneath the host's epidermis.
