Merlinius joctus is a species of plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the family Dolichodoridae. From a taxonomic perspective, this organism is classified under the kingdom Animalia, phylum Nematoda, and class Chromadorea. It functions as an ectoparasite, utilizing its stylet to pierce root epidermal cells and extract nutrients from the plant's host tissue.

This pathogen impacts a broad range of agricultural crops, including cereals, grasses, and vegetables. Infestations typically result in stunted growth, chlorosis, and general plant decline.
