Additionally, the fungus is observed on soybeans, cotton, sunflowers, and various cereal crops. It manifests as a characteristic blackening of tissues, which leads to seed embryo death and poor germination rates.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle involves the production of distinctive black, shiny, single-celled conidia that are dispersed by wind, rain, and insects. Spores enter plant tissues through mechanical injuries or natural openings. Once inside, the mycelium spreads rapidly, decomposing cell walls and absorbing nutrients, eventually leading to necrotic lesions.
