These organisms act as aggressive pathogens that target the vascular system and root structures, posing a major threat to the commercial cultivation of the fruit.

The most common and destructive diseases in passion fruit include Fusarium wilt, root rot, and anthracnose. These diseases primarily impact the stem collar, roots, and foliage. The pathogens impair the plant's ability to transport water and nutrients, which eventually leads to the wilting and total collapse of the vine, often resulting in significant yield loss.
Biology and life cycle
Pathogens typically persist in the soil as dormant structures like chlamydospores or oospores. When soil moisture is high and temperatures rise, they germinate and infect roots.
