The primary disease associated with this pathogen is known as Phoma leaf spot or stem rot. It affects a wide range of agricultural crops, manifesting as dark, sunken lesions on stems, leaves, and sometimes roots. Environmental conditions play a decisive role in the spread of Phoma epicoccina. The fungus thrives in moist, temperate conditions, particularly where humidity remains consistently high. Extended periods of rainfall combined with temperatures ranging from 18 to 24°C favor spore germination and penetration.
