Symptoms often present as small, spindle-shaped white to tan lesions on stems, leaves, and fruits, which may merge and cause significant structural damage to the plant tissue.

Biology and life cycle: The fungus survives in crop debris and soil as dormant mycelium or chlamydospores. Under favorable moisture conditions, it produces masses of conidia that are easily dispersed by splashing water, wind, or contaminated agricultural equipment. The infection cycle repeats rapidly during the growing season as long as moisture levels remain high enough for spore germination.
