This pathogen is known for its host-specific interaction with cereal crops, primarily affecting oats (Avena sativa), where it acts as a necrotrophic parasite damaging leaf and stem tissues.
The disease manifests as necrotic lesions on foliage and stems. These symptoms interfere with the plant's physiological functions, specifically by reducing the active photosynthetic area and disrupting normal transpiration. Severe infections can lead to chlorosis and early senescence, which significantly stresses the plant during the critical grain-filling stage.
