It is primarily recognized as an agent causing significant leaf spot diseases in various palm species, most notably in coconut palms (Cocos nucifera). This pathogen poses a constant threat to nursery stock and commercial plantations globally.

The disease is characterized by the appearance of dark, irregular necrotic spots on the palm fronds. As the fungus colonizes the leaf tissue, these spots may coalesce into large, dead areas, resulting in premature leaf senescence. This destruction of the photosynthetic surface significantly hampers the plant's metabolic processes and overall vitality.

The life cycle and dissemination of Pseudoepicoccum cocos are heavily influenced by environmental factors such as high humidity and frequent rainfall. Spores are primarily dispersed through wind currents and splashing water, which deposit the inoculum onto healthy palm tissue. Warm temperatures create optimal conditions for the fungus to germinate and penetrate the host cuticle.
