Sanders

Sanders refers to a specific genus of microscopic organisms classified in modern phytopathology as pathogenic fungi. Systematically, this object belongs to the Fungi kingdom. In agronomic practice, this pathogen causes severe mycoses, primarily affecting the vegetative organs of agricultural crops.

The primary damage caused by this pathogen manifests as necrosis and wilting of the plant vascular system. The most susceptible crops include vegetable, cereal, and ornamental species. The infection can appear as localized spots or systemic damage, leading to total plant death under conditions favorable for the parasite.

The biology of the pathogen includes active sporulation phases and a resting period in the form of sclerotia or spores within the soil. The development cycle begins with the germination of resting structures upon contact with the host root system. This is followed by tissue colonization, degradation of cell walls by pathogen enzymes, and the subsequent formation of new spore clusters.

For intense spread, the pathogen requires high substrate humidity and moderately warm air temperatures. The pathogen is extremely resistant to temperature fluctuations and can remain viable in plant residues for several years, making control very difficult in the absence of crop rotation.

Protection measures include an integrated approach: the use of systemic fungicides, adherence to agrotechnical standards, and phytosanitary control. It is important to promptly remove infected specimens and disinfect the soil. It is also recommended to use resistant cultivars and hybrids capable of limiting the proliferation of the mycelium within the tissues.
