This organism is recognized as a persistent plant pathogen that targets woody plants and shrubs, leading to significant structural damage and necrosis of internal vascular tissues.

The fungus is primarily associated with diseases such as branch dieback, bark necrosis, and stem cankers. It typically infects plants through wounds, natural cracks in the bark, or pruning sites. Because of its mode of entry, the pathogen often exploits trees that are already suffering from environmental stress or poor management practices.

The life cycle of the pathogen involves the production of fruiting bodies known as pseudothecia on infected, dead plant tissues.
