They are characterized by a long, needle-like stylet used to feed on plant root tips, causing direct physiological damage to the host.
These nematodes affect numerous essential crops, including grapevines, fruit trees, and various herbaceous plants. Their primary economic threat, however, is their role as vectors for plant-pathogenic viruses. By transmitting these viruses during the feeding process, they induce systemic diseases that cause stunted growth, mosaic patterns, and significantly reduced yield and fruit quality over the lifespan of the plants.
The biology and development of Xiphidorus yepesara are intrinsically linked to soil conditions.
