Acanthococcus tokaedae is a scale insect belonging to the family Eriococcidae within the order Hemiptera. As a specialized pest, it spends its life cycle feeding on the sap of various woody plants and shrubs, which leads to a significant decline in the host plant's physiological condition and overall vitality.

This pest is primarily observed on conifers and certain broad-leaved tree species, particularly in East Asian regions. Within agricultural and landscape management, it targets ornamental plantings, causing visible aesthetic deterioration and reducing the plants' natural defense mechanisms against environmental stressors.

The biology of the species comprises the stages of eggs, nymphs (crawlers), and adults. Adult females are protected by a dense waxy or felt-like covering, which acts as a barrier against traditional contact insecticides. The life cycle is typically univoltine, and the crawler stage is the most critical period for infestation, as these small insects are easily dispersed by wind or physical contact.

The damage caused by Acanthococcus tokaedae includes the formation of dense colonies on stems and needles. Feeding activity results in shoot deformation, chlorosis (yellowing), and needle drop. Furthermore, the copious amounts of honeydew produced by the insects promote the growth of sooty mold, which blocks photosynthesis and further weakens the affected branches.
