Alcidodes affaber is a significant pest belonging to the Curculionidae family within the order Coleoptera. This species is recognized as a major threat to cotton production, primarily in Asian agricultural regions, where it impacts the vegetative and reproductive stages of the crop.

The primary host for this weevil is the cotton plant. Both adults and larvae cause damage, but the most severe impact is associated with the larval stage, which feeds internally within the stems. Cultural control measures, such as the destruction of crop residues immediately after harvest, are essential to break the pest's overwintering cycle.
