Amphicranus rasilis is a species of beetle belonging to the Curculionidae family, specifically within the Scolytinae subfamily. Known primarily as wood-boring pests, these insects are significant in forest ecosystems, often acting as secondary pests that exploit weakened or stressed woody vegetation in tropical environments.

The host range of Amphicranus rasilis typically includes a variety of broad-leaved trees. In commercial forestry and ornamental arboriculture, these beetles can compromise tree health by invading the bark and sapwood layers. While they often target damaged wood, high-density populations can overcome the natural defenses of healthy trees, leading to severe ecological and economic losses.

The biology of this pest is characterized by an obligate symbiotic relationship with ambrosia fungi. Adult beetles bore deep galleries into the tree's wood and introduce fungal spores. The developing larvae feed exclusively on the fungal growth that proliferates inside these tunnels, rather than directly on the wood tissue, which requires a stable, high-moisture internal microclimate.

Damage caused by these beetles is characterized by the presence of small entry holes on the bark surface and the accumulation of frass, which is the powdery wood residue pushed out by the insects. These internal gallery networks disrupt the tree's vascular system, causing nutrient and water transport to fail, which eventually leads to canopy dieback and tree mortality.
