Biology and life cycle: Anatoecus dentatus undergoes hemimetabolous development. The entire life cycle occurs on the bird. Females attach eggs to the barbs of feathers. Upon hatching, nymphs feed on feather fragments, skin debris, and secretions, eventually molting into adults while staying on the host throughout their lifespan.
