Anomala albopilosa is a species of beetle belonging to the family Scarabaeidae and the order Coleoptera. Native to East Asia, it has become recognized as a significant agricultural pest due to its voracious feeding habits both as an adult beetle and as a root-feeding larva in the soil, affecting various cultivated plants and orchard trees.

The host range of this pest is extensive, including various fruit trees like grapevines and apples, as well as many ornamental and agricultural crops. The damage caused by adults is primarily foliage-related, while the subterranean larvae impact the plant's structural integrity by consuming root systems, which is particularly devastating for young saplings and vegetable seedlings.

The life cycle typically spans one to two years depending on the environmental conditions. Adult females oviposit in soil rich in organic matter. Upon hatching, the larvae undergo three larval instars, feeding on roots until they pupate in earthen cells. Adults emerge during the summer months to mate and feed, completing the cycle and ensuring the species' continued presence in agricultural areas.

Symptoms of infestation include severe skeletonization of leaves, where only the veins remain, and sudden wilting of plants due to root destruction by larvae. This dual-threat feeding strategy makes Anomala albopilosa a challenging pest to manage, as it requires attention to both the aerial parts of the crop and the soil environment simultaneously.
