Like other members of the Rutelinae subfamily, it possesses distinctive morphological characteristics that make it a target for entomological study in agroecosystems.

The host range of this pest is quite broad, affecting several economically important crops. It is known to target crops such as sugarcane, various cereals, legumes, and vegetable crops. The damage caused by these beetles is dual-fold: larvae feed on roots, causing stunted growth, while adults often feed on the foliage, impacting the plant's overall photosynthetic capacity and vigor.

The biology and development of Anomala bengalensis are strictly dependent on environmental conditions, particularly soil moisture and temperature. The life cycle comprises four distinct stages: egg, larva (which undergoes three instars), pupa, and adult.
