Anoplocnemis castanea, commonly known as the chestnut bug, is a member of the Coreidae family (leaf-footed bugs). It is widely recognized as a significant agricultural pest that targets a variety of plants, causing substantial economic losses in legume cultivation across tropical and subtropical environments.
The primary hosts of this pest include economically vital crops such as soybeans, cowpeas, and kidney beans. The adult bugs and nymphs use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to penetrate pods, stems, and seeds. By extracting essential plant sap, they disrupt nutrient flow, causing the wilting of young shoots and the shriveling of maturing seeds.
