Anoplognathus analis is a species of scarab beetle (family Scarabaeidae), belonging to the subfamily Rutelinae. Known commonly as a type of Christmas beetle in its native range, this insect is recognized as a significant pest of various Eucalyptus species, causing damage to both forest ecosystems and commercial timber plantations.

The host range is primarily focused on Eucalyptus, where both adults and larvae play a detrimental role. Adults feed on the foliage, often congregating in large numbers, while the subterranean larvae (white grubs) feed on the roots of trees and surrounding vegetation, creating a dual-threat impact on tree health.

The biological cycle follows a classic coleopteran pattern: eggs are laid in the soil, followed by three larval stages (instars) where the insect grows and prepares for pupation. The pupal stage also occurs in an earthen cell. Adult beetles emerge after completing their metamorphosis, typically triggered by seasonal changes and rainfall patterns.

The damage caused by this pest is multifaceted. Defoliation by adults reduces the tree's photosynthetic capacity, which can lead to reduced growth rates and increased susceptibility to secondary wood-boring insects.
