Anoxia is a genus of scarab beetles belonging to the family Scarabaeidae and the order Coleoptera. These insects are closely related to the well-known European cockchafer or May bug. They are widely distributed in various regions, where they thrive particularly in sandy or loose soil environments, which provide optimal conditions for their larval stages.
These pests pose a significant threat to a wide range of crops, including cereals, root vegetables, orchards, and nursery stock. While adult beetles may feed on the foliage of trees and shrubs, the primary agricultural concern is the root-feeding behavior of their larvae, commonly known as white grubs, which live underground and cause structural damage to plant root systems.
